Panel okays renaming roadway near IU as Bob Knight Memorial Way

Representative Mayfield presented the resolution and said the timing coincides with the 50th anniversary of Knight’s 1976 undefeated team. Gail Zaharaless, speaking as a close family friend on behalf of the Knight family, thanked the sponsor and recounted Coach Knight’s career, teaching background and influence on players and the state.
The sponsor said the family had given its blessing for the naming. A motion to approve the resolution was made and seconded; the committee recorded the roll-call vote and the measure passed 12-0.
No opposition or amendments were recorded in committee testimony.
