Council adopted proclamations recognizing April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month; North Coast crisis team announced a $500,000 grant and a local forensic interview center, and child‑protection partners invited community events.
The Crescent City Council at its April 6 meeting adopted two proclamations: one recognizing Sexual Assault Awareness Month and reaffirming support for the North Coast crisis team, and another declaring April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Amanda LeBlanc, identified as director of the North Coast crisis team, told the council the organization secured a $500,000 grant for Del Norte County and has established a local forensic interview center to provide scripted, best‑practice forensic interviews for children. "We were able to secure a $500,000 grant for the county of Del Norte, and our office is now a fully functioning, forensic interview center," LeBlanc said, and she invited council members and residents to visit the new facility during an upcoming Chamber event.
A representative of the Del Norte Child Abuse Prevention Council thanked the council for the proclamation and invited members to a children's memorial flag‑raising ceremony. Council members said they would consider a letter of support to state representatives about victim‑services funding, and the mayor asked staff to place a related item on a future agenda.
The proclamations were accepted by voice and public‑comment remarks emphasized the importance of cross‑sector collaboration and prevention programs for children and survivors.
