Subcommittee refers school‑committee powers-and‑duties policy to full committee with MASC edits

At the April 8 meeting the Fall River policy subcommittee voted to refer the powers‑and‑duties policy (BBA) to the full school committee with edits to align the district language to the MASC model and to review the administrative assistant job description and any related contract.

Deputy superintendent (S1) introduced the agenda item and said the item had been carried over from a prior meeting. Committee member S2 said the MASC text appears to be current (noting a 2022 model) but urged removing boilerplate notes that reference regional procedures not applicable to Fall River. S2 and others debated whether the administrative assistant and the school committee attorney should be listed as reporting directly to the committee or to the superintendent.

S1 moved to refer the policy to the full committee and to include a review of the administrative assistant job description and contract. S2 seconded the motion. By voice vote the subcommittee approved the referral and the request that the full committee review job descriptions and contracts at the full‑committee level.

The referral is procedural: the subcommittee did not adopt a final policy at this meeting. The administration was asked to provide the spreadsheet and any contract timeline or job‑description updates to inform the full committee’s review.
