Board ratifies two union agreements, approves two policy first readings and an advocacy communication

At its May 19 meeting the Suffield Board of Education recorded several unanimous decisions and one executive session. The board voted to accept revised Board of Education Policy #0100 (Code of Ethics) and Policy #5131.911 (School Climate) for first reading; both motions carried 8‑0‑0 (MOTION #25‑55 and MOTION #25‑56). The board also approved a communication on special education advocacy (MOTION #25‑57) by a unanimous vote and authorized outreach to state leaders and submission of a viewpoint to the Connecticut Mirror.
Earlier in the meeting, the board entered executive session to review two tentative collective bargaining agreements. After returning, the board approved the tentative agreement with Connecticut Health Care Associates (Nurses’ Union) (MOTION #25‑58) and the agreement with UE Local 222, CILU #38 (Food Service Union) (MOTION #25‑59), both passed 8‑0‑0. Board members publicly thanked nurses and food service workers during the approvals. The meeting adjourned at 8:56 p.m.; minutes are subject to approval at the June 2, 2025 meeting.
