Greg Haley, presenting a midyear review of the district’s strategic plan, told the Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School District Committee on March 10 that applications are "up again over 1000," and outlined progress across four strategic objectives, curriculum redesign, professional development and safety initiatives.
Haley emphasized several metrics and initiatives: a rise in total applications; the marine services program’s national certification by the American Boat and Yacht Council; nearly 10,000 uses of the Magic School platform five months into the year; and co-op placement progress (about 77% of students meeting co-op placement goals at the halfway point, with program staff 85% of the way toward employer partnership targets). He said administration is curating examples of instructional practice and will publish a public-facing dashboard to track strategic-plan initiatives and outcomes.
On curriculum and student supports Haley described work to revamp the exploratory model for a potential pre-exploratory program, a multi-year review of grading consistency and equity, and continuing rollout of universal-design-for-learning (UDL) and DCAP strategies. He highlighted professional development provided in special education and English-language learner spaces and the integration of technology tools that teachers and students use to differentiate instruction.
Safety and procedures were also detailed: the district implemented Yonda pouches, stay-put drills, unannounced ALICE training and midyear nursing trainings on EpiPen and seizure protocols. Haley said Miss Yolanda Dennis is preparing a consolidated policy/procedure review and that an executive summary is expected by May 2026.
Committee members thanked Haley and staff for the depth of work and noted that having a dedicated administrator to oversee implementation has accelerated progress. The committee also discussed operational items tied to enrollment growth and program expansion, including classroom repurposing and lunchroom seating adjustments.
What’s next: Haley said the district will continue trimester reviews and release further updates later in the week on trimester-two progress; the administration plans to begin public dashboard rollouts and to transition to new career-planning software (MEFA Pathways) to support myCAP implementation next year.
