The Milford Board of Selectmen voted to approve a conservation-fund purchase of Map 56 Lot 70 after town staff reported no completed title transaction and no present concerns from the county.
Chris Constantino told the board county records show no completed transaction for the parcel dating back to the 1860s and that the heirs of James Lawrence never acted on a purchase. "There's been no records of any of this transaction ever happening," Constantino said, adding that anyone claiming ownership would face substantial historical taxes and title work.
Board members asked about surveys, boundary monuments and the legal perambulation requirement for town lines. One selectman noted state law (an RSA) requires selectmen to perambulate town bounds every seven years; board members said Milford has not done that work in decades and that boundary markers can be difficult to locate on long-untouched parcels. The discussion focused on ensuring the town's boundary is clear and that the lack of an earlier survey does not prevent the conservation purchase.
Selectman Paul Darje moved to approve proceeding with the purchase using the conservation commission's fund; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. The administrator said documents to complete the transaction were prepared for signature.
The board took no additional formal conditions on the purchase at the meeting; staff will proceed with the paperwork and recordation steps necessary to accept the parcel.
