Town staff presented a resident complaint about parking and driving conditions on Amherst Street near the Oval and recommended consideration of a restriping amendment rather than removing parking.
Town Administrator Lori Radke summarized prior discussions, telling the board the staff packet includes the board’s October 14 conversation and a Highway Safety Advisory Committee review. "At that time, the Board suggested painting the center line a little bit over to give more space so that the cars can park," Radke said, describing the prior decision to restripe rather than eliminate spaces.
Board members noted this winter’s heavy snow had narrowed the roadway and that uncleared snowbanks were limiting parking and travel space. The board discussed whether the town should remove snow from the edge of the road to restore width and whether parking in nearby municipal lots could be better managed.
Selectmen agreed to have staff contact the complaining resident, relay the discussion, and leave the existing parking allowance in place for now while the town monitors the area and considers additional measures in spring when snow is cleared.
