At its June 12 meeting the Ventnor City Commission adopted a package of consent resolutions (2025‑191 through 2025‑216) covering grant revenue, personnel and small contracts.
Key approvals by consent included: a Green Acres/Green Communities grant for about $20,000, a Clean Communities grant of $42,000, an $8,000 lump‑sum reimbursement agreement with the county for senior‑center parking, routine vendor overpayment refunds, seasonal part‑time hiring for recreation staff, and renewal of liquor licenses. Clerk Cindy read bills and payroll totals: bills $1,870,656.94; payroll May 11–25 $644,728.87; May 25–June 7 $720,356.56; commissioners approved group adoption by roll call.
Personnel actions: The commission formally recorded the appointment of Amy Stover as the city CFO, effective retroactively to Jan. 1, 2025, for a three‑year term; commissioners said the paperwork should have been completed earlier and this action corrects the record. The commission also accepted the retirement of Joseph Daniels from the fire department, effective July 1, after 20 years of service, and authorized several seasonal hires for recreation and summer work.
Capital and contracts: Resolution 2025‑210 authorized management and oversight for the design and construction of tennis and pickleball courts with Paulastina and Associates, not to exceed $87,000. Commissioners said the work focuses on removing cracked surfacing, rebuilding to beach sand base and preserving the number of tennis courts while marking multiple lines for pickleball when appropriate. Bidding and construction are planned for the off‑season.
Finance update: Staff reported a successful bond sale (winning bid at 3.35% interest) and confirmed S&P assigned a double‑A (AA) rating; staff said the rating reflects Ventnor’s reserve policy (reserves above 20% of revenues), robust coastal tax base, and long‑term resiliency planning. Officials said the AA rating and competitive sale lower long‑term borrowing costs.
What’s next: Projects funded or authorized through these resolutions will move to procurement and implementation phases; staff will follow up on contract bidding timelines and notify the commission when bids are ready for award.
