Town Attorney Lee Farmer told council he had received a petition from K M. Graves Family, LLC requesting voluntary annexation of 5.26 contiguous acres of the Eurie Johnson property and asked the council to set a public hearing under G.S. 160A-31. Mayor Pro Tem Odessa Gwynn moved to schedule the hearing for Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at 7:00 p.m.; the motion was seconded by Mayor Foster and passed.
Farmer also presented a resolution stating the Town of Yanceyville’s intent to annex town-owned property that is not contiguous with existing municipal boundaries under G.S. 160A-58.7. Councilman Brian Massey moved to adopt that resolution; the motion was seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Gwynn and the resolution passed 3–1. Councilman Keith Tatum voted no.
The annexation petition will proceed to the scheduled May 3 public hearing. The noncontiguous annexation resolution sets a town intent but does not itself finalize any boundary changes; further proceedings and notices will follow state statutory requirements.
