A representative from American Ramp Company/Fellow Solutions explained the technology: a single buried strip under the track functions as a digital start/finish line and, when users run the companion app on a phone, the app records lap times and speeds and posts leaderboard standings. The vendor said there is no ongoing fee and that the company would warrant the equipment; the vendor offered a reduced installation price of $7,500 to include the equipment as part of the initial build rather than adding it later.
Council members said installing the feature now would capture launch usage statistics and community interest. Council approved the additional funding so installation can proceed with the contractor on the planned April start date for the track work. Staff noted the pump track project has a larger grant of $750,000 backing the overall park work; the timing equipment represents a small percentage of that grant.
Next steps: The vendor will confirm installation timing and the city will publish public information so residents can download the app and learn how to use the feature when the track opens.
