BLM Nevada briefs commissioners on local projects: Dodge Flat 2 solar, Lemon Drive realignment and fuels work

Representatives from the Bureau of Land Management’s Nevada office briefed the Washoe County Board of County Commissioners on a range of land-management activities affecting the county, including renewable-energy permitting, infrastructure work and fuels-reduction efforts.
John Ravey, BLM Nevada State Director, framed Nevada’s public-lands footprint and priorities and said the agency is working to support local communities, public access and tribal partnerships. "We have 48,000,000 acres of the 71,000,000 acres that is Nevada," he said, listing grazing, recreation and minerals among agency priorities.
Carson City District Manager Kimberly Dow highlighted two Washoe County projects. She said the Lemon Drive road realignment — intended to move 2.5 miles of roadway outside the floodplain — is in NEPA with completion anticipated within a month or two and construction anticipated by 2027. Dow also described Dodge Flat 2, a proposed 200-megawatt solar project plus 200 MW of battery storage covering roughly 1,571 acres (about 500 acres on public land), with the final environmental assessment and Resource Management Plan amendment out for comment and a decision expected in late May.
BLM staff described range and wild-horse work (population reductions and planned gathers), multiple fuels-reduction and shared-stewardship projects in the Northern Virginia Mountains and North Reno wildland-urban interface, and a recent $305,000 Nevada State Parks grant to improve OHV sites with a substantial portion allocated to Washoe County locations including Jumbo Grade and Moon Rocks.
Commissioners thanked the BLM for cooperation, asked for additional detail on specific local efforts and encouraged continued coordination with county staff on implementation timelines.
BLM said it will continue outreach and invited county engagement as NEPA and permitting steps proceed on the projects discussed.
