The board approved two security procurements for the district on April 7 after discussion about procurement processes and contract documentation.
Assistant Superintendent for Finance Miss Roaring presented consent items including a purchase of backpack scanners (item 11.5) and an AI‑enabled metal detector system for the Career and Technical Education building (item 11.6, approximately $61,835). Members asked for supporting documents, contract numbers and confirmation that the district could legally "piggyback" on another district's RFP or use a cooperative purchasing agreement.
A trustee said the quotation for backpack scanners referenced a New York State contract but lacked a contract number, bid date and evidence the district was authorized to use it; the purchasing agent and another board member confirmed the district would use a TIPS cooperative contract or a valid piggyback provision and that the pilot had previously been approved for another building. "The state put out the bid... the district can piggyback off those state prices," a board member explained.
On item 11.6, trustees asked what the $61,835 covered. Administration clarified the purchase would procure four AI metal detectors plus the monitoring/ viewing systems needed for security personnel and identified the vendor as MIS Security Inc (the packet contained a vendor letter with a misprint listing another vendor). The board approved both items by roll call after the clarifications.
Board members asked for more complete procurement documentation to be included in future packets so trustees can verify cooperative agreements and the scope of deliverables before approval.
