Grant County begins process to discontinue terminal portion of Lake Road, appoints viewing committee

Grant County Fiscal Court voted on April 7 to begin the statutory process to discontinue the final segment of Lake Road and appointed a three-person committee to prepare the required road report.

The court adopted Resolution 2026-02 under KRS chapter 178 to initiate discontinuance proceedings for roughly 96 feet at the end of Lake Road (county road number 041 CR 1055B). The chair said the stretch is a dead-end section that will be removed from the county road plan if the discontinuance proceeds through the required steps.

As required by state statute, the court appointed Joe Gordon, the Grant County road supervisor, along with two disinterested viewers, Gary Bowling and Carl Jackson Jr., to serve on the committee that will inspect the road and prepare a report. The court indicated a legal advertisement will appear in the local paper next week, notices will be posted at locations within one mile of the site, and the adjoining property owner will be mailed a letter; the process will continue with first and second ordinance readings and further action by the court.

A member of the public who addressed the court clarified that the full Lake Road measures less than 900 feet and that the discontinuance affects only the terminal 96 feet. The speaker said the adjoining property owner has purchased parcels at the road end and that the proposed change is intended to allow a turnaround and not to affect other residents.

What happens next: the county will place the legal advertisement, post notices, complete the viewers’ road report and return to the court for ordinance readings and possible final action in a later meeting.
