Committee approves FY24 closeout transfers, accepts $2,000 nutrition grant and clears surplus disposals

District finance director Joe Spagley presented the FY24 closeout as of June 25 and the committee approved a series of fund transfers to cover deficit accounts and leave modest reserves for next year.

Spagley outlined the closeout rationale and the net movement of accounts to cover deficits; specific motion amounts called during the meeting included $116,320 moved from instructional to administration, $13,766 moved from instructional to fixed assets, $107,000 moved from other student services to out‑of‑district tuition, and $29,000 moved from benefits to out‑of‑district tuition. Each motion was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.

The committee also voted to accept a Fuel Up grant worth $2,000 to purchase smoothie equipment for the high school nutrition services program; the food‑service director submitted the grant application. "The equipment valued at $2,000 will be shipped to the high school in August or September," the grant memo stated.

Surplus and disposal requests were approved for outdated textbooks at Hartnett School and for two pieces of kitchen equipment from food service. The district will seek buyers for reusable textbooks where possible and dispose of irreparable equipment.

Separately, the committee approved a facilities‑use request for the Blackstone‑Millville Youth Basketball summer camp at the fees on the submitted form; one member, Chuck, abstained and the record reflects that abstention.

What’s next: Spagley will post account transfers as approved and continue to monitor carryover balances (circuit breaker and transportation funds); the committee will receive updated financial reporting as needed.
