Vicky Francois, principal and Alternative Learning Options (ALO) coordinator for HOMELink, presented the program’s goals and methods to the Lake Stevens School District board on Nov. 12.
Francois said HOMELink’s work centers on Social‑Emotional Learning (SEL) and a Professional Learning Community (PLC) process to align instruction with essential standards. For the 2025–26 school year, she described a target that at least 85% of students demonstrate proficiency in grade‑level writing standards by June 2026, defined as earning a score of 3, or “proficient,” on the program’s co‑created rubric. She also said the program aims to increase students’ understanding of algebraic concepts, setting a goal of a 90% pass rate in OL Algebra (up from an identified 70% pass rate in 2024–25).
Francois outlined steps to reach those targets: using tier‑1 strategies, pre‑assessments to inform instruction, monthly data cycles, co‑created norms with students and families, and teaching students self‑advocacy. She highlighted family partnership activities—such as a food drive, a board games evening and collaborative art projects—as components of the program’s outreach and engagement strategy.
The board received the presentation as an informational report; no board action was recorded on the ALO presentation.
