One member warned that if the single BMR chaperone were unable to continue, students could be under the supervision of adults they do not know from a partnering district. “Should anything happen to that chaperone, our students are now with people they don't know rather than someone they're familiar with,” a committee member said, urging a second adult.
Supporters said the trip will also pair students with chaperones from another district as arranged by the tour company and that the district would seek an additional teacher or staff member if approved. Opponents raised concerns about using district funds for the extra chaperone and the expense of international travel. The motion to cover the second chaperone cost passed 4–2.
