District administrators described the adoption as the next step in a procurement process conducted under Arizona Revised Statutes 15-721 and district policy: a reading adoption committee reviewed materials, vendors were solicited per the RFP, materials were displayed for public viewing for the required 60 days, and principals, district administrators and teachers participated in the final selection. The committee presented two finalists; after webinars and vendor presentations the executive team approved the committee's recommended selection.
A representative from Sabus was present to answer board questions. After brief questions from board members clarifying how many students the materials will reach (administration said the adoption covers all district students in kindergarten through eighth grade), the board moved, seconded and approved the adoption by roll-call vote.
The motion instructs administration to proceed with procurement consistent with the approved RFP and to carry forward implementation planning for the curriculum rollout in the 2026''27 school year.
