Dallas County pretrial services honored as top Texas agency

The court on April 7 recognized the Dallas County Pretrial Services Department after the agency received the 2026 Critical Pretrial Agency award from the Texas Association of Pretrial Services.
Pretrial Services Director Jeff Segura thanked commissioners and credited his staff for 24/7 work handling intake, monitoring compliance with conditions of bond and managing electronic monitoring caseloads. “Our staff who are sometimes on call late nights… are here doing it,” Segura said as the court acknowledged the department’s award and the role pretrial services play in ensuring public safety while preserving the presumption of innocence.
Commissioners praised the department’s innovation and collaboration with the district attorney, public defenders and sheriff’s office. The court’s recognition was ceremonial; no budget action was taken at the meeting.
