Residents press board for better injury notifications, traffic coordination and Jackson Avenue planning

Elizabeth Conway, a former board member, said she supported restoring the caucus meeting format so board members could discuss district matters in greater depth and requested periodic monthly updates about school projects and spending. "It would be nice to know where our money is being spent and when the children would be going in," Conway said, and thanked outgoing members for their service.
Joyce Ship Freeman asked a procedural question about student-injury reporting: if a lunch aide reports an injury up the chain to a teacher and then to the nurse, why would the nurse not notify a parent? She said she would send the question online for follow-up; the board asked her to email the superintendent and said staff would respond.
Anthony De Ameren described tight streets at James Monroe and said garbage-truck pickups during drop-off create hazardous conditions for buses and emergency vehicles. He asked whether the district had coordinated with the township and whether a traffic study had been completed. He also asked whether the district had a plan to manage access if Jackson Avenue construction proceeds.
Superintendent Dr. Adarali said the district has been in contact with the mayor and his team and that the district will start including building principals in those conversations. "We're working on a plan," he said, without giving a timeline for specific mitigation measures.
The board closed public comment and moved to a confidential privileged session. Members said they expect to meet next Tuesday for the action meeting at Addison High School at 7:00 p.m.
