County considers SPLOST/Tourism money for Riverbend Park dock and amenities; larger dock recommended

During its Aug. 25 work session, the Cusseta–Chattahoochee County commission considered a list of projects staff proposed for SPLOST and tourism funding, including a dock at Riverbend Park, restrooms at the King Street basketball court and a Welcome Center at City Hall.
County Manager Thomas Weaver briefed commissioners on the list and said staff will return to a future session with preliminary cost estimates. Parks and public‑works staff reported an inspection of the boat ramp and that a dredging contractor had been contacted to evaluate sand accumulation near the ramp; staff said they were awaiting a price for dredging. Work‑session discussion favored a larger dock footprint after staff presented updated quotes and noted the project’s procurement threshold requires formal bidding.
Commissioners also discussed related park amenities including a potential pavilion and improvements to the Splashpad, which staff said had a leak under investigation. Weaver said the proposed Welcome Center and equipment storage could be housed in a climate‑controlled storage building behind county offices and asked the commission to approve pursuing a design and cost estimate.
The work session directed staff to include these items on a future regular meeting agenda with cost estimates and, where required by procurement rules, to put the dock project out to bid.
