Kings County adopts Child Abuse Prevention Month proclamation after CAPC update

Monica Connor, assistant director for the Human Services Agency and chair of the Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council, presented the council's FY 2024–25 accomplishments and asked the board to receive the update.
Connor said CAPC's outreach—carried out with King's Partnership for Prevention—reached approximately 2,800 people at community events and about 13,700 people digitally during the fiscal year. She described primary prevention (92 LISA project participants, five mandated‑reporters trainings), secondary prevention (about 129 safety plans), home‑visitation services reaching roughly 103 families, and tertiary supports including a parenting education resource used by about 49 parents and post‑adoption services for 10 families.
Natasha Andress, program manager and CAPC coordinator, asked the board to adopt a resolution proclaiming April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month and highlighted an art project by youth in care on display outside the chamber.
The board moved to adopt the resolution and the clerk recorded affirmative votes; the resolution was adopted during the meeting.
