At their April 7 meeting, Worcester County Commissioners approved a set of routine but consequential items including contract awards and an over-expenditure request:
- Minutes and consent agenda: Commissioners approved the March 17 minutes (7–0) and consent agenda items 2–23. - Library renovation: (See separate coverage.) - Item 25: Emergency Services over-expenditure of $1,556 for winter storm response was approved; staff corrected a memo reference (State Highway Administration, not National Guard). - Item 26: Approval to acquire communications assets from the State of Delaware was approved without extended discussion. - Item 28: FY26 paving projects were awarded to Alan Myers for $922,374.93. - Item 29: Hazard mitigation plan contract awarded to Cloweta Holdings following RFP review. - Road striping: Awarded to Alpha Space Control, piggybacking on a Maryland Department of Transportation contract, for $70,000 (funded in the current budget).
Most items passed with unanimous voice votes; one contract vote (library renovation) recorded a 6–1 result after an amendment for local preference. Commissioners also discussed emergency planning and sheltering after a recent winter storm and flagged post-event after-action work as a priority.
Staff will proceed with contracting and return any required details to the board or include them in upcoming budget/service-area materials.
