Jennifer, director of conservation for Watershed Friends, asked the Select Board for $1,900 from the town budget to support invasive‑plant prevention and monitoring across ponds in the watershed. She said the organization hired courtesy boat inspectors, has two plant‑survey crews (including a dedicated team for Pomsie Lake) and will add a plant‑control crew to the roaming team in 2026 to respond to early detections.
Jennifer reported last season’s surveys found no aquatic invasive plant species in Barrie, Dexter and Wilson ponds and noted the group had removed a small water‑chestnut find at Jug Stream early this season. She said the modest increase (about 5% and roughly $100 from last year) reflects inflation and the added plant‑control capacity.
The board thanked the presenters. Staff noted that the town of Leeds provided an appropriation to help the Watershed Friends this year. The Select Board did not take an immediate motion during the presentation; the group’s funding request will be considered during upcoming budget discussions.
