Rochester Hills council approves Deborah's Stage Door conditional use at Starbat Drive

The Rochester Hills City Council unanimously approved a conditional use on Monday allowing Deborah’s Stage Door to relocate to 1954–1958 Starbat Drive.
Planning staff told the council the small, primarily evening facility would occupy space in the Employment Center district and had received a favorable recommendation from the Planning Commission. Planner presentation materials said the studio expects about 50 students and would meet conditional-use criteria for compatibility with surrounding uses.
Deborah Arguza, the studio owner, told the council she was downsizing after recent medical issues and noted the business has been part of the community for about 40 years. “We’ve taught hundreds of kids from Rochester and the surrounding area,” she said.
Councilmembers praised the studio’s community history and the planning department’s review. Councilmember Mangioli moved the resolution and Councilmember Neubauer seconded it. Council President Deal read the resolution, which approves the conditional use based on the documents submitted to the planning department on June 20, 2024, and the six findings and two conditions in the packet.
The motion passed with no opposition.
The council did not add any additional conditions beyond those in the staff packet. The applicant thanked the council and said the studio will ensure compliance with zoning criteria.
