Council approves second‑reading pay ordinances; multiple appointments cleared by consent

The Waldwick Borough Council voted on second reading Sept. 30 to adopt pay changes for borough employees and the fire department and approved a slate of consent items including personnel appointments.
Clerk Kelly read Ordinance 2025‑19, amending Chapter 12 (fire department) to increase monetary portions of compensation other than insurance and liability; two council members recused themselves from that item because they are members of the fire department. After the council closed debate and heard no public comment, the council moved to pass the ordinance on second reading and directed the clerk to publish required legal notices.
The council also adopted Ordinance 2025‑20 to amend compensation ranges, salaries and wages for municipal employees, including adjustments for the municipal clerk and fire‑department positions. A related resolution (2025‑282) to authorize salaries for the municipal clerk and fire department was moved and carried as part of the consent process.
The consent agenda—read by the clerk—included approvals for a school graduation ball raffle calendar, multiple appointments (including designating Tatiana Marquis as municipal housing liaison, municipal recycling coordinator and public agency compliance officer), appointment of Jay Putterman as a police officer, approval of a salary for Melissa Labrizzi (Clerk 1), authorization to cancel and refund taxes for a 100% veteran exemption (Block 149, Lot 59) and payment of vouchers.
Clerk Kelly recorded the roll calls for the votes. On the fire‑department ordinance one council member stated they were unable to vote; the minutes record other council members voting yes. The council instructed the clerk to advertise adopted ordinances in the local legal newspapers as required by law.
Separately, the council introduced Ordinance 2025‑22 to authorize a lease of the old DPW complex to the Waldwick High School Graduation Ball Incorporated; the council approved the ordinance on first reading and set a public hearing for two weeks from Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
No formal objections from the public were recorded during the ordinance proceedings. The meeting adjourned following routine closing motions.
