Hillsborough Board appoints assistant superintendent, approves routine personnel and operational items and tables calendar change

The Hillsborough Township Board of Education on Feb. 24 approved several personnel and operational measures, including the appointment of Dr. Lisa Rabimbis as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction for the 2025–26 school year, and tabled a proposed change to the district calendar so the matter can be reviewed by committee.

Board President Mr. Marini opened the meeting and, after returning from a brief executive session, read the agenda items and committee reports. The HR committee reported it had updated job descriptions for the assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction and the assistant school business administrator and said the recommended candidate for the assistant-superintendent role had been interviewed by the full selection committee.

Dr. Lisa Rabimbis, introduced to the board and community at the meeting, told attendees she was “truly honored to be considered and chosen as the next assistant superintendent” and said she looked forward to joining the district on July 1. The superintendent noted the appointment was part of a motion on the HR action list and that the formal vote to appoint Dr. Rabimbis was recorded as part of the board’s roll-call approval of the action agenda.

The board approved a broad action agenda that included retirements, resignations, new appointments, leaves of absence, salary adjustments, out-of-district placements, acceptance of a donation, the disposal of obsolete equipment, and acceptance of a bid for replacement of fascia at Woodfern Elementary School. The board also approved motions to accept monthly bills and financial reports and to adopt several policy readings presented by the education committee.

One contested procedural item was agenda item 11.3, a proposal to move a professional half-day/instructional half-day from June 3 to June 10 (and related changes tied to primary election timing). A board member asked that the item be tabled so it could be discussed further in committee. The motion to table 11.3 carried on a roll-call vote with the board recording affirmatives from the members present; the board said the item would return to committee for further consideration.

The meeting included routine ceremonial business: a proclamation recognizing Black History Month and the presentation of Teachers and Educational Services Professionals of the Year from across the district. The board recorded no public comments during either of the two public comment periods.
