"We're free. We're objective. We're neutral," Heather said, describing the program's SHIP counselors and their role helping callers weigh Medicare plan options. She told commissioners the agency has resource coordinators who can perform in‑home assessments and follow‑up planning when a single phone call is insufficient.
Heather highlighted a recent, limited ARPA project the agency ran with county adult protection teams to provide short‑term emergency supports (food, shelter, hotel stays) to vulnerable adults after severe storms; she said roughly $12,000 in direct assistance flowed to Beltrami County through that program.
Commissioners asked about eligibility and local coordination. Heather said most Dancing Sky services do not have strict income limits (Older Americans Act programs typically serve people 60 and older), but certain grant rules may require donation requests or cost‑share steps for nutrition programs. She also explained that the agency can fund transportation providers via the Title III‑B ("B bucket") funding stream and provides technical assistance to local providers seeking grants.
Commissioner comments stressed the practical importance of the 800‑number and asked staff to share the contact with county HHS leadership before the presenter departed. Heather offered to provide contact information and materials for the county to post and distribute.
