Duplin County Schools board approves sale of seven modular units at East Duplin High School

Duplin County Schools' board members voted on March 3 to approve the sale of seven modular classroom units at East Duplin High School, authorizing sale through Floyd's auction at the end of the 2526 school year.

The motion was moved by Miss Edwards and seconded; the vote carried by voice. Edwards asked for clarity on where students and classes displaced by the sale would be relocated. Miss Ballard, speaking for staff, said a preliminary plan exists that would house every displaced classroom and that roughly 11 classrooms are affected. "There won't be any roaming around," Ballard said, while acknowledging that one group—health classes—might need to rotate on a two‑week schedule and that some classrooms may be doubled up temporarily.

Ballard described several specific relocation approaches: using vocational shop or lab areas (for agricultural and automotive classes) and pairing teacher assistants with subject teachers when needed. She offered to share the relocation plan with board members and said contingency adjustments were possible.

Board members asked clarifying questions about student placement and bathroom access; Ballard said those concerns were addressed in the preliminary plan. With that assurance, Miss Edwards moved to approve the sale of the seven modular units; the motion passed by voice vote.

The board did not record a roll‑call tally in the public transcript. The meeting later moved into executive session for personnel and confidential student information.
