Albia council appoints police chief, reappoints clerk and commissioners; one reappointment split 4-2

The Albia City Council confirmed a slate of appointments and reappointments at its Jan. 5 meeting.
Mayor Richard Clark appointed Jacob Miller as Chief of Police; the appointment was moved by Councilmember Chris Yarkosky, seconded by Mayor Pro-Tem Merle Regenold and approved 6-0. The council reappointed Linda Heller as city clerk (motion Trudy McDowell; second Scott Kelly) and reappointed Matt Brick of Brick Gentry P.C. as city attorney (motion Chris Yarkosky; second Merle Regenold), both by unanimous 6-0 votes.
The council reappointed Eric Miller as sanitation commissioner (motion Scott Kelly; second Merle Regenold) by a 4-2 tally, with Don Benson and Chris Yarkosky recorded as voting no. Scott Reed was reappointed as street commissioner (motion Merle Regenold; second Chris Yarkosky) by a 6-0 vote. The council also designated Albia Newspapers as the city’s official paper by a 6-0 vote.
