The Carlsbad Planning Commission voted 6–0 on June 19 to approve a site development plan and coastal development permit for Premier Cadillac at Paseo Del Norte.
Staff said the 3.39-acre site, located at 5556 and 5566 Paseo Del Norte, would see demolition of two office buildings and construction of an 8,703-square-foot, one-story showroom and sales-office addition, plus a 2,096-square-foot service lane and revisions to the parking layout. Staff analyzed the project for consistency with regional commercial zoning, the Car Country Carlsbad specific plan, and the local coastal program and recommended approval.
Architect Doug Andresen told the commission the project includes designated employee and customer parking (including EV stalls). Commissioner Stein asked whether the project would add customer parking to ease off-site parking pressure; Andresen said the project does not materially increase parking counts (a small net change—staff referenced roughly nine spaces) and that some display parking would be adjusted.
With no public speakers signed up on the item and no unresolved policy issues, Commissioner Stein moved to approve staff recommendations; Commissioner Hoebinger seconded and the commission approved the resolution 6–0.
Next steps: The project record will include the adopted resolution and conditions; the applicant will coordinate final parking and site plan details with staff prior to building permits.
