Town Council confirms and swears in Joseph Cunera as Merrimack fire chief

The Merrimack Town Council voted to confirm Joseph Cunera as the town’s new fire chief and administered his oath of office at the Sept. 11 meeting.
Councilors praised Cunera’s experience and training. A councilor who brought the nomination said Cunera had served as a chief in another community and was a well-known trainer in the fire academy. Nancy Harrington moved to confirm the appointment and the motion carried by voice vote.
After the vote Cunera raised his right hand and recited the oath, saying, "I, Joseph Cunera, do solemnly swear and sincerely swear that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as fire chief... agreeable to the rules and regulations of this constitution and the laws of the state of New Hampshire." He thanked the council, the department and town staff and said he looked forward to working with the fire company.
No formal conditions or amendments to the appointment were recorded. The council recessed briefly after the ceremony and then returned to the regular agenda.
