Council accepts $12,752.88 from dissolved Crimeline account for police use

The Merrimack Town Council on Aug. 21 voted to accept and expend $12,752.88 remaining in the Merrimack Crimeline account following the volunteer group's dissolution, directing the funds to the Merrimack Police Department.
Deputy Chief Matthew Tarleton (speaker 8) told the council the group had supported the department for decades and that the money will be used for equipment needs—examples under consideration include a bike rack for a new electric bike and items for the department’s Dare car. ‘‘We can use it for those types of things, equipment needs that we need,’’ he said.
Councilor Nancy Murphy moved to accept and expend the donation; Tom Thun seconded. The council voted 6‑0‑0 to approve the acceptance and expenditure and thanked the volunteers for many years of service.
Town staff said the funds will be added to the police department’s budget lines and used for equipment determined by the department; no final purchase decisions were made at the meeting.
