The council chair said the town has been “informed of a document that’s been circulating on social media about potential location for the ice detention facility in Merrimack” and that officials are checking the document’s validity with federal and state partners.
Town staff said they would make verified information available to the public and post updates on the town website once they have confirmation. “At this time, we are in the process of checking the validity of the document with federal and state officials. Once we have more information on this, we will make it available to the public,” the chair said.
Councilors urged residents to follow official town channels for updates rather than relying on unverified social posts. The meeting continued into a detailed department-by-department budget review after the announcement.
