Board votes to extend Chair Matt's term six months in reorganization vote

At the April 7 meeting the Chatham Board of Health discussed officer succession ahead of local elections. Chair Matt proposed extending his chairmanship for an additional six months to preserve continuity. A motion to retain Matt as chair for six months, make John the vice chair now and move Steve to member was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
"Going forward, starting after this meeting or starting now, Matt retains chairmanship for 6 additional months," the member who made the motion stated (motion text read at the meeting). Another member seconded the motion and Chair Matt called for the voice vote; members responded "Aye" and the motion carried.
Board staff noted that officer names and roles are reported to the state and that the change will be reflected in the official filing. The board tentatively scheduled its next meeting for May 5, 2026.
