Students brief board on activities and trips; board accepts $25,400 in donations for We The People

Senior students addressed the board about spring activities, coursework and a proposed overnight senior trip, and board members asked questions about chaperones, logistics and the timing of course-planning conversations.

Ashley told the board the spring musical produced four performances of Rock of Ages and that spring sports and tryouts had just begun. Ella, who identified herself as senior class president, said students were enthusiastic about an overnight whitewater-rafting trip as an alternative to other senior-trip options and reported roughly 17 students had expressed tentative interest. "It's something a lot of students are looking for… it's about togetherness," Ella said.

Students discussed classroom experiences and the differences between AP and dual-enrollment classes; one student who has taken both described dual enrollment as "easier" because it relies on course grade rather than a single end-of-course test.

Later in the meeting, the board voted to accept donations from the Hollis VFW and the Brookline American Legion totaling $25,400 to support the Hollis–Brookline "We The People" team’s trip to the national finals in Washington, D.C. The chair moved to accept the gifts and the board approved the motion. The principal noted the donation essentially covers the cost for students to attend the competition.

Board members encouraged student participation in district committees and student representation in program discussions. The board also reminded the public that the senior trip and the band trip proposals will return for formal action in upcoming meetings.
