LPAC leadership proposes reorganization to focus on arts education, seeks modest funding shift

Leaders of the Lafond (LPAC) presented an organizational optimization plan to the committee that would reorient the center from a venue model toward a district arts-education hub and reallocate responsibilities across several positions.
The presenter said the plan is designed to centralize student-focused programming, designate a program/production director to manage school performances and residencies, and convert the current curriculum and instruction (C&I) secretary role into an operations and finance secretary at the center. ‘‘We’re not expanding; we’re optimizing,’’ the LPAC presenter told the committee.
Officials said the production director position would align pay and duties with existing technical director roles, the marketing/box-office manager would be retitled and focused on marketing and communications, and the changes would reduce inefficient work agreements previously used to backfill vacancies. The presenters estimated an annual net incremental cost of about $7,800 after offsets and noted earlier ad hoc work agreements in one semester totaled roughly $13,000.
Board members asked whether the center can be self-sustaining and whether the projected savings and revenue streams (ticket sales, sponsorships) would be sufficient. Administration said roughly one-third of the incremental cost could be drawn from revenue generated by the LPAC while the district would cover the remainder; staff pledged to return with funding-language options for the board to consider.
Next steps: administration will present funding options and job descriptions to the board; if approved, the district will advertise or recruit for the production/program director and update related job titles and descriptions.
