Beaumont Unified board adopts emergency resolution to repair high‑school water leak; approves contracts and personnel actions

The Beaumont Unified School District Board of Trustees adopted an emergency resolution on Oct. 14 authorizing repair and remediation work for a water leak at Beaumont High School and approved multiple routine business items including budget adjustments, a construction management contract and personnel assignments.

The board adopted Emergency Resolution 2025‑26‑18 regarding repair and remediation of a water leak at Beaumont High School. The motion to adopt was recorded as moved by David Sanchez and seconded by Jeff Brown; the motion carried. Board members and staff discussed an authorization cap of $125,000 in the resolution and whether work exceeding that amount would require returning to the board. District counsel and staff explained that the current work was contained within the $125,000 amount and that the resolution is written to give flexibility, but if the work continues beyond that scope the board would need an update and additional approval at the next meeting.

"As of today the work has been contained and the work has been resolved," a district staff member said in response to trustee questions, while legal counsel noted the resolution provides flexibility and that any extension above the authorized cap would be brought back to the board.

Earlier in the meeting the board approved the readmission of an expelled pupil (student discipline case number 202425‑04) under Education Code sections 48916 and 35146; the official minutes record the motion as moved by Susie Lara and seconded by David Sanchez and the motion carried.

On finance and contracts, trustees adopted Resolution 2025‑26‑17 to make budget adjustments and approved awarding Neff Construction, Inc., to provide construction management services and general conditions for the Beaumont Early Childhood Education Center. The financial resolution included a clerical date correction (to 10/14/2025) noted by staff and accepted by the board before the vote.

Human resources items were approved by vote: certificated, classified, and administrative/confidential personnel assignment orders dated 10/14/2025 were adopted. The board also approved a memorandum of understanding with the Beaumont Teachers Association for president's release time and an MOU with the California School Employees Association chapter regarding adjusted work hours for educational liaisons on early‑release days.

The board introduced and welcomed Jacqueline Miles, who joins the district as assistant principal of 3 Rings Ranch Elementary School. Miles told trustees she was honored to serve and to partner with students, staff and families.

Why it matters: The emergency resolution authorizes timely repairs to campus infrastructure that district staff said are currently contained within the approved spending cap; the board recorded a commitment to return for additional approval if costs exceed the stated maximum. Approving the Early Childhood Education Center contract and personnel assignments advances construction and staffing for district programs.
