The Bountiful City Council voted to purchase 18 ruggedized laptops for patrol officers, approving a staff recommendation that the machines would reduce downtime and provide vehicle‑mounting, robust weather protections and biometric multi‑factor authentication.
Dan Irvin (speaker 14), presenting for IT, said the department evaluated several options and recommended purpose‑built ruggedized units because they offer secure vehicle mounts and more durable hardware so officers can click laptops into car mounts and out at the station without repeated log‑ins. He said the devices “are built to withstand falls… spills, rain” and include built‑in cellular connections to reduce reliance on secondary devices.
Council member Bell (speaker 2) moved to approve the purchase from Enhanced Technologies for $70,006 to be paid from the IT computer replacement fund; the motion passed by voice vote with council saying “aye.” Staff said docking/mounting stations will be provided so officers retain a full workstation setup when at the station.
What’s next: The city will proceed with procurement and coordinate vehicle mounting and desk docking for the new units.
