Commission approves budget cleanup, procurement steps and administrative updates

The Cusseta–Chattahoochee County commission approved a cluster of administrative and procurement items during its Sept. 2 meeting, voting unanimously on motions that included a year-end budget amendment, authorization to put a fishing-pier project out to bid, reappointment of a DFACS board member, a switch in county retirement providers and adoption of an online payment portal.
Key actions approved:
- Year-end budget clean-up amendment: The commission approved an amendment to reallocate existing FY2024–25 funds across departments. Exhibit A, entered into the record, lists specific line-item deltas affecting courthouse utilities, clerk office supplies, sheriff and EMS salaries, the library, planning & zoning, and water analysis among others.
- Riverbend fishing dock: The board authorized the Riverbend Park fishing-dock project to be put out to bid. In the later Sept. 22 work session, county staff reported that only one bid had been returned: $90,582.11 from Wahoo Docks of LaGrange; staff said an eventual award would be contingent on required U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permits.
- Personnel and appointments: The commission reappointed Martha Burgamy to the Department of Family and Children Services board (term through June 30, 2027) and approved a change in the county retirement provider from Corebridge to the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) program.
- Administrative items: Commissioners adopted updated internal travel mileage rates, approved renewal of the DFACS lease, authorized a Caselle payment portal for online payments, and approved participation in IPAWS (Integrated Public Alert & Warning System) for emergency notifications.
Why it matters: The bundle of approvals affects county finances, procurement timelines and operations. Work-session follow-up: During a Sept. 22 work session staff described additional facility projects — a storage-building procurement for 215 McNaughton St., a single $96,000 bid to refurbish parts of the old city hall welcome center, and consideration of adding kennel runs at the animal pound — and recommended those items be placed on the Oct. 7 regular meeting agenda for formal action.
