Harrison Township board opts out of early voting for May 6 school special election, moves one precinct polling place

The Harrison Township Board of Trustees voted Feb. 10 to opt out of providing Early Voting for the May 6, 2025 special election called by Mount Clemens Community Schools and to temporarily move Precinct 6B’s polling location to the Harrison Township Administration Building at 38151 L'Anse Creuse.
The decision, made during the clerk’s office agenda item, was explained by the Clerk as driven by the very small number of eligible voters in the affected portion of the township — the Selfridge Air National Guard Base area — which the clerk said currently has “only approximately three active voters.” The board framed the opt-out as applying to this special election only and intended to avoid imposing Early Voting costs on the school district where the service would reach very few residents.
Clerk’s office staff said the temporary relocation would reduce disruption at the school that normally serves Precinct 6B voters and allow the Clerk’s Office to better support the single precinct on election day. The Clerk’s Office will complete required public notices about the change.
Treasurer Lawrence Tomenello moved to adopt the resolution opting out of Early Voting for the May 6 special election; Trustee David Bratto seconded the motion. The board recorded its approval. The change of polling place for Precinct 6B to the township administration building was approved in a separate motion.
