The Decatur County Community Schools board handled routine business and approved a series of items by unanimous vote.
Approvals included minutes from the March 11 and March 25 meetings; the order of payment for claims and payroll; multiple field trips (including an archery trip to Louisville, Ky., a band and choir trip to Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, and FFA events in Indiana); and personnel items such as retirements, leaves and affirmations of new hires. The motion to approve minutes and payroll carried 7-0.
Personnel actions announced by staff included retirements and leaves: Scott Johnson with an effective date of June 15; Kristy Nesbitt (effective end of year); Molly Martin (medical leave for first semester of the 2026–27 school year); and Paige Devore (approx. Sept. 7–Nov. 1). The board also acknowledged long‑time first‑grade teacher Jane Burgard’s planned retirement after about 29 years of service.
Two student fundraisers were approved: a baseball fundraiser with a target of $15,000 and a HOSA Future Professionals fundraiser aiming for roughly $5,000 to support leadership events, competitions and chapter activities. The board also accepted a donation of a batting cage from Billy Segars for South Dakota High School’s girls’ softball program.
All routine items reported in the meeting were approved by unanimous votes (7-0).
