The Harrison Township Planning Commission voted to approve Case #11-25-S on April 17, allowing the Huron‑Clinton Metropolitan Authority to build a new 1,852‑square‑foot boater and park amenity building as part of a North Marina renovation at Lake St. Clair Metro Park.
Township Planner Adam Young reviewed the proposal and his April 11, 2025 review letter, saying the project includes a harbor master office, restroom facilities, outdoor seating, landscaping, utility connections, sidewalk work and a bike rack. Young noted several items the commission agreed to waive for site‑plan submission, including a survey of nearby buildings and a development impact statement, because the applicant provided updated site plans.
Janet Briles, chief of planning and development for the Huron‑Clinton Metropolitan Authority, told the commission the landscaping plan calls for three Northern red oaks, one sycamore and two sugar maples at a minimum 2.5‑inch caliper. Fire Marshal Larry Shackett said he had no objections to the project but will require plans for a standpipe system through the docks when the applicant returns for site‑plan approval. Chair Tim Duncan said Selfridge Air National Guard Base reviewed the project and raised no concerns.
Commissioners moved and seconded a motion to approve the case with the applicant following the discussion and the items identified in the planner's April 11, 2025 letter. The motion carried.
The commission's approval is for the site plan as discussed; required technical details such as the dock standpipe system must be supplied at the time of formal site‑plan submittal.
