Board approves loaner-engine repairs and sale of totaled 2006 fire engine; insurance proceeds to fund replacement

The supervisor said there is no rental fee on the loaner but the township is responsible for repairs incurred while it is in custody.
Sale and replacement: The board also authorized the sale of the 2006 Pierce Arrow XT (E-2), which was involved in a February 16, 2025 collision while responding to an incident and has been deemed totaled by MMRMA. The board noted neither crew member was injured because they were seat-belted at the time of impact. MMRMA will issue a loss claim check for the market value of $323,950 after a $1,000 deductible. The township approved accepting an as-is, salvaged-title offer of $10,000 for the 2006 vehicle. The minutes record a purchase plan for a 2014 Smeal Metrostar at $300,000 plus $30,000 contingency for outfitting ($330,000 total), offset by the MMRMA claim and the $10,000 salvage sale, leaving a balance of $3,950.
Trustee David Bratto moved and Trustee Dean Olgiati seconded the motions to approve the repair payment and the sale; both motions carried.
Why it matters: the actions allow the fire department to maintain front-line capability while warranty repairs proceed and to move forward with a funded replacement plan for a totaled apparatus.
