The LaSalle County Board approved amendments to the county parks rules and regulations April 9 that change trail language and clarify user responsibilities.
During discussion board members noted trail subsection 14(e) and debated whether to omit the phrase "and cyclists" to make clear that bicycles and e-bikes are not allowed on certain park trails while roads remain open to bicycles. The board approved a motion to omit the language and then approved the corrected ordinance by voice vote.
Public commenters had raised concerns about trail etiquette and the need for signage; a speaker during public comment described a close encounter with an e-bike rider and urged education and signage so trail users know yielding priorities (horses over hikers and bicyclists). County staff confirmed signs are posted at road crossings and said the amendment applies to trails rather than roads.
The amended ordinance takes effect immediately upon passage as recorded in the meeting minutes.
