Harrison Township board concurs with emergency SMART bus transmission repair, caps expense at $6,000

The Harrison Township Board of Trustees on Sept. 8 concurred with an emergency repair to a SMART shuttle transmission, authorizing an expenditure not to exceed $6,000. Supervisor Kenneth Verkest said shuttle #36124 needed a new transmission; the estimated repair cost was $5,864.40. A loaner bus from SMART had kept the fleet at three; with maintenance on #36124 the township was operating two active shuttles.
Clerk Adam Wit moved, and Treasurer Lawrence Tomenello seconded, a motion for the board to concur with the emergency transmission replacement for bus #36124 at a cost not to exceed $6,000. The motion carried. The minutes note a replacement bus is expected later in the month to replace shuttle #35077, which currently is not in service and was replaced previously by a SMART loaner.
