Harrison Township trustees approve $1.38 million in bills, fund firefighter training and park bathhouse renovations

At its March 10, 2025 regular meeting the Harrison Township Board of Trustees approved the consent agenda that included bills totaling $1,384,424.45 and ratified the minutes of the Feb. 24 meeting.

Trustee Dean Olgiati moved and Trustee David Bratto seconded the motion to approve the consent agenda, which carried. The board also voted to receipt and file the fourth-quarter 2024 Treasurer's Report following a motion by Trustee Olgiati and second by Trustee Bratto.

The board authorized $5,000 for Macomb Community College’s flashover training trailer so Harrison Township Fire Department personnel can participate in a live-burn flashover training. Fire Chief Dave Bostater said the department would be the first in Macomb County to go through the facility; the class fee was discounted $2,500 because HTFD is the inaugural participant. Trustee David Bratto moved and Trustee Liza Brown seconded the flashover training funding; the motion carried.

The board also approved interior renovations for the Waterfront Park bathhouse. Building Official Brent Condon solicited bids and agreed to act as construction manager; estimates totaled approximately $65,000, and the board authorized up to $75,000 for the interior work. Trustee Dean Olgiati moved and Treasurer Lawrence Tomenello seconded the motion, which carried.

Supervisor Kenneth Verkest provided several announcements including a South River Road bridge replacement project expected March through August 2025 (a temporary bridge will keep traffic open), reminders that curbside compost service resumes in April, and information about Green Macomb’s 2025 tree sale with orders due April 5. The meeting was adjourned at 7:19 p.m.
