Schilling Elementary Principal Jessica Pollock presented the school’s 2024–25 assessment results and a plan she described as "transformative change." She highlighted specific gains — including an increase in students meeting grade-level standards in fourth grade and a drop in suspensions from 42 to 4 year‑over‑year — and said targeted phonics interventions reduced the number of students more than three grade levels behind in reading by 9 percentage points.
Pollock attributed the progress to structured designated ELD rotations, increased professional learning and use of a national literacy consultant working with staff. She noted Schilling has the district’s highest share of multilingual learners (43 percent) and said 55.5 percent of students qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
Trustees and audience members praised the school’s efforts. A board member suggested the presentation include more root-cause data (for example, a Pareto-style breakdown) so trustees can identify which interventions would scale to other sites.
Pollock also requested more family engagement around upcoming ELPAC and CAST tests; staff said district communications and parent workshops would be made available to support families ahead of tests.
