Dodge County Board approves road contracts, equipment purchase, CVB grant and routine claims

At its April 1 meeting the Dodge County Board approved a $252,330 payment for Morningside Road work, authorized multiple bid solicitations for road projects, agreed to buy two motor graders, accepted a $10,000 CVB grant to support John C. Fremont Days events, approved payroll/financial claims and corrected two tax rolls.
The Dodge County Board of Supervisors took a series of administrative and infrastructure actions at its April 1 meeting in Fremont, unanimously approving payments, bidding notices and equipment purchases and accepting several routine items.
The Board approved a $252,330 payment to Burns & McDonnell for construction engineering on the Morningside Road improvements (Project 185002) at 66% completion; the payment will be made by the Fremont Municipal Inland Port Authority but required County Board approval because the work involves a county road.
Highway Superintendent Scott Huppert was authorized to advertise Notices to Bidders for County Road 2 Bridge Rehabilitation Project No. C‑27 (647B) and County Road 2 Milling and Overlay Project No. C‑27 (647), both with bids to be opened April 27, 2026, and for the 2026 Applied Traffic Paint Striping with bids opening the same day. The Board also approved Huppert’s purchase request for two Caterpillar motor graders, one of which is included in the current fiscal budget; the second will be financed over three years. Huppert told the Board the county owns six graders and cited Caterpillar’s trade‑in value as a fiscal reason for the purchase.
The Board accepted the Fremont & Dodge County Convention and Visitors’ Bureau Advisory Committee recommendation to grant $10,000 to John C. Fremont Days Inc. to support the rodeo, car show/downtown barbecue contest and a hot air balloon glow/watermelon feed; Molly Paden said the advisory committee had consolidated requests and landed on a total $10,000 award.
The Board approved wage and hour claims totaling $305,832.47 and financial claims of $267,562.22. While convened as the Board of Equalization at 10:00 a.m., members unanimously approved tax roll corrections #5875 and #5876 and received certifying documents from the Nebraska Tax Equalization & Review Commission.
Sheriff Weitzel also took a moment to recognize the promotion of Logan Kampschnieder to sergeant. The Board briefly met in closed session to discuss general assistance claims and returned to open session with no action taken. Chairman Missel adjourned the meeting until April 15, 2026.
