Planning Commission sets public hearing on zoning amendments including short-term rental limits and PUD lot size

The Harrison Township Planning Commission voted Oct. 16 to set a public hearing to consider several proposed zoning ordinance amendments.
Township Planner Adam Young said the commission has discussed proposed changes for some time; the amendments under consideration include a maximum number of occupants for short-term rentals, an adjustment to minimum lot size required for planned unit developments (PUDs), and a township-initiated zoning map change. Commissioner Larry Tomenello moved to set a public hearing for the proposed zoning amendments; Mark Bacha seconded the motion and it carried.
During public comment, Mary Drapeau asked the commission what the length of a short-term rental is, seeking clarification as the amendments move forward. The planner also updated commissioners on three recent Tech Team items: a potential relocation of ReJoyceful Animal Rescue to the industrial district, temporary placement of shipping containers at Mold Masters, and continued work on a prior rezoning request at Ashland and Coleridge by applicant Emerald Greens.
The commission set a public hearing to collect broader input before any ordinance amendments are forwarded for final action.
