Beardstown council approves IAFF Local 3155 tentative agreement with amendments

After meeting in executive session under Exemption 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(2) for collective bargaining, the Beardstown City Council approved a negotiated tentative agreement with IAFF Local 3155 (the firefighters and ambulance employees) on Oct. 8, 2024.
Council first voted 5–1 to enter the executive session; Alderperson Eric Harbin recorded the lone vote against entering executive session. Following closed-door discussion, council returned to regular session and approved contract amendments by a 6–0 roll-call vote. The approved amendments recorded in the minutes include: an addition to Section 9.9 (Maternity Leave) requiring the employee to continue paying the employee portion of the medical health insurance premium; a change to Appendix A establishing a three-year period (May 1, 2024–April 30, 2027); removal of the rate for part-time employees; and removal of Appendices B and C. The amended tentative agreement was then approved by a 6–0 roll-call vote.
